A Pareto chart is a bar graph or a combination of both line and bar graphs. The bar lengths represent the individual values or the frequency, while the lines represent the cumulative total values. In this chart, the longest bars are arranged on the left and the shortest bars on the right, which makes it easier to read and interpret the data. It can also be called a Pareto diagram or Pareto analysis.
The Pareto chart is named after the Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto, who described the Pareto...

Area of Science:

  • Public Health
  • Consumer Psychology
  • Socioeconomics

Background:

  • The COVID-19 pandemic presented a major public health challenge, prompting European nations to implement safety measures to curb SARS-CoV-2 spread.
  • Restrictions on commercial activities like shopping galleries, grocery stores, and restaurants led to observable shifts in consumer behavior.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To analyze changes in consumer behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • To investigate patterns in the use of gastronomic services and grocery shopping.
  • To assess the adoption of safety measures by consumers.

Main Methods:

  • An original online survey was conducted in November 2020.
  • The survey included metrics and closed-ended questions on consumer behavior during the pandemic.
  • Data from 1080 respondents (850 female, 230 male) were analyzed using Statistics 13.1 and Microsoft Excel.

Main Results:

  • Over half of respondents (58%) were employed, with a majority (48%) working stationary and 33% remotely.
  • Among young respondents, 45% were unemployed, and 55% were employed.
  • Approximately 28% of respondents transitioned from stationary to remote work during the pandemic.

Conclusions:

  • The global COVID-19 pandemic necessitated significant changes in both consumer and social behaviors.
  • Consumers demonstrated an awareness of SARS-CoV-2 infection risks, evidenced by the safety measures they adopted.
