Summary

Locomotion training (LT) improved locomotive syndrome (LS) and physical function in young and middle-aged workers. This exercise intervention was particularly effective for individuals with existing LS.

Background:

  • Locomotion training (LT) is typically used for older adults to prevent locomotive syndrome (LS).
  • The efficacy of LT in younger and middle-aged populations remains less understood.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the effects of a 1-year locomotion training program on young and middle-aged workers.
  • To assess improvements in locomotive function and related physical parameters.

Main Methods:

  • A longitudinal study involving two companies over one year.
  • Company A workers participated in LT (single-leg standing, squatting) five times weekly; Company B served as a control.
  • Evaluations included questionnaires and physical performance tests, specifically three locomotion tests.
