Summary

Comparing three dental impression techniques, the matrix method showed the highest accuracy. While all methods yielded acceptable results, the putty and light body technique was least accurate for single tooth impressions.

  • Three groups (n=15 each) were evaluated: 1) Putty and light body in a sectional stock tray, 2) Monophase and extra light body in a sectional stock tray, and 3) Matrix impression technique.
  • Impressions were taken of a prepared tooth on a typodont model.
  • Casts poured from the impressions were dimensionally compared to the original typodont tooth.

Main Results:

  • The matrix impression technique demonstrated the highest dimensional accuracy.
  • The monophase and extra light body technique showed moderate accuracy.
  • The putty and light body technique yielded the least accurate results, though variations were within acceptable clinical limits.

Conclusions:
