Hospitals-II

Hospitals provide inpatient and outpatient services. Inpatient services provide care to patients that stay in the hospital for an extended period, ranging from days to months. Examples of inpatient services include intensive care units, hospital wards, or surgeries. Outpatient services provide care to patients who come to a hospital for a diagnostic or treatment but do not stay overnight —for example, diagnostic tests, surgical procedures, or health education.

Hospitals-I

Hospitals offer medical and surgical care to the sick and injured, along with accommodation while they recover. At the same time, they also provide outpatient, emergency, psychiatric, and rehabilitation services to meet various community needs. In addition to providing medical care, hospitals also act as hubs for medical research and training. Hospitals use clinical procedures and evidence-based practice standards to deliver patient care. To deliver safe and efficient care, a nurse must stay up...

Rural Health Centers
Rural health centers are specialized care facilities in remote locations with very few medical personnel. The primary care providers who run the centers are mostly Registered Nurse Practitioners. Here, emergency treatment is provided to critically ill or injured patients before they are transferred to the closest hospital. Fortunately, due to advancement in technology, many rural healthcare facilities and professionals have easy access to diagnostic and treatment...

Primary Healthcare Services

Primary care promotes wellness and prevents disease. This care includes health promotion, education, protection (such as immunizations), early disease screening, and environmental considerations. Settings providing this type of healthcare include physician offices, public health clinics, school nursing, and community health nursing.

Secondary Healthcare System

1.7K
Secondary healthcare is offered by a specialist, generally in hospitals or clinics for patients referred by primary healthcare providers. It occurs when a person has an illness or injury that requires specific medical care. Secondary care is often referred to as acute care. Secondary care can range from uncomplicated care to repair a minor laceration or treat a strep throat infection to more complicated emergent care, such as treating a head injury sustained in an automobile accident. Whatever...

Pulmonary Tuberculosis IV

225
Tuberculosis, more commonly referred to as TB, is an infectious disease stemming from Mycobacterium tuberculosis. While it primarily impacts the lungs, TB can also affect other body areas. Given its severity and global impact, timely and accurate diagnosis is crucial for controlling its spread and improving patient outcomes.
Several diagnostic approaches are used to detect TB. The conventional method is the Tuberculin Skin Test (TST), also known as the Mantoux test. However, this method has...

Area of Science:

  • Infectious Diseases
  • Immunology
  • Public Health

Background:

  • Limited outpatient treatment options existed for mild to moderate COVID-19 before monoclonal antibody emergency use authorization.
  • Virus-neutralizing monoclonal antibodies emerged as a potential outpatient therapy for COVID-19.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the efficacy of outpatient bamlanivimab therapy for mild to moderate COVID-19.
  • To evaluate emergency department visits and hospitalization rates at 7, 14, and 28 days post-infusion.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective chart review of adult patients receiving bamlanivimab for mild to moderate COVID-19.
  • Comparison with a control group receiving standard care prior to bamlanivimab authorization.
  • Data abstraction included demographics, allergic reactions, ED visits, hospitalizations, and mortality.

Main Results:

  • Bamlanivimab infusion showed no allergic reactions.
  • A statistically significant reduction in emergency department visits was observed at 28 days (p=0.03).
  • No significant differences in hospitalizations or ED visits were noted at any time point for patients aged 65 or older.

Conclusions:

  • Outpatient bamlanivimab reduced subsequent emergency department care needs at 28 days for mild to moderate COVID-19.
  • Hospitalization rates were not significantly reduced within 28 days.
  • Efficacy in older adults (65+) regarding ED visits or hospitalizations was not statistically significant.
