[Current Status of University-Originated Startups and Careers for Its Establishment]

As of 2020, the number of university-originated startup companies in Japan had reached 2,905, of which 907 are companies related to biotechnology, healthcare, and medical devices. In recent years, this industry has been booming, with more than 200 university startup companies being established every year. This paper outlines the current situation, significance, handling of inventions at the university, company establishment process, intellectual property management, conflict of interest management, and exit, focusing on university-originated startups aimed at drug discovery.
