Background:

  • Vasculogenic erectile dysfunction (ED) affects a significant number of men, impacting quality of life.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the clinical effectiveness of low-intensity extracorporeal shockwave therapy (LIESWT) for vasculogenic ED.
  • To evaluate patient satisfaction levels with LIESWT treatment.
  • To determine the efficacy of the Duolith SD1 device in treating ED.

Main Methods:

  • A prospective, randomized, double-blinded trial involving 60 men with vasculogenic ED.
  • Participants were assigned to either LIESWT or a placebo group for 6 weeks.
  • Efficacy was measured using International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF)-5 and Erection Hardness Score (EHS); satisfaction was assessed via EDITS and a 5-point scale.

  • LIESWT group reported higher EHS scores and a positive correlation between erectile function improvement and treatment satisfaction (p=0.008), with no adverse events.

Conclusions:

  • LIESWT offers a safe and effective short-term treatment option for men with mild to moderate vasculogenic ED.
  • The therapy is particularly beneficial for patients without cardiometabolic disease.
  • LIESWT shows promise as a non-invasive therapeutic modality for erectile dysfunction.
