Summary

Preoperative skin preparation methods, including shaving, daphne soap, and chlorhexidine, did not significantly affect sternotomy surgical site infection rates. Further large-scale trials are needed to identify optimal methods.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the impact of different preoperative skin preparation techniques on sternotomy SSIs.
  • To compare routine care (shaving) with electric clippers plus daphne soap or chlorhexidine.
  • To identify the most effective method for reducing SSIs in sternotomy patients.

  • A quasi-experimental study involving 96 male patients undergoing sternotomy.
