Area of Science:

  • Biosensor technology
  • Nanomaterials
  • Immunodiagnostics

Background:

  • Accurate detection of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies is crucial for COVID-19 diagnosis and screening.
  • Existing methods lack rapid, quantitative, all-solid-state solutions for antibody testing.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To develop a rapid, quantitative, all-solid-state biosensor for SARS-CoV-2 antibody detection.
  • To utilize colloidal quantum dots (CQDs) for electronic labeling and signal transduction.

Main Methods:

  • Fabrication of a CQDs-modified electrode for SARS-CoV-2 protein detection.
  • Utilizing electronic labeling and the unique electrical properties of CQDs.
  • Testing with serum specimens from COVID-19 patients and normal controls.

Main Results:

  • Observed a distinct current peak indicating specific SARS-CoV-2 antigen-antibody binding.
  • Demonstrated quantitative analysis of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies with high correlation (93.8%) to ELISA.
  • Achieved approximately 90% accuracy in discriminating patient and normal samples.
  • Results obtained within 1 minute using a handheld prototype.

Conclusions:

  • The CQDs-based biosensor provides sensitive, specific, and rapid detection of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies.
  • This technology facilitates low-cost, high-throughput immunological diagnostics for clinical, POCT, and home use.
  • The biosensor offers a convenient alternative for COVID-19 immunological assessment.
