Summary

BDSM disclosure may protect sexual and gender minority (SGM) individuals from suicidal thoughts by reducing feelings of not belonging. This finding highlights the importance of social connection for SGM individuals in BDSM communities.

  • This study enhances understanding of how intersecting marginalized identities influence suicide risk and resilience.
  • Findings underscore the importance of social connection and community for SGM individuals within the BDSM context.
