Abstract:
There are nearly 20 million persons in the United States suffering from asthma. Nearly 5 million of these are children. This represents an increase in the prevalence of the condition in the past twenty years. In the same time period hospitalization rates for asthma have increased dramatically in the pediatric and adult population. Of greater concern, is a significant increase of deaths due to asthma in the past eight years.
