This study reports a case of prolonged COVID-19 viral shedding lasting 110 days in a patient with lymphoma. This finding contributes to understanding the contagious period and potential chronicity of COVID-19.
Area of Science:
- Infectious Diseases
- Hematology
- Virology
Background:
- COVID-19 pandemic has caused significant mortality.
- Typical viral shedding lasts 7-10 days.
- Uncertainty exists regarding prolonged shedding and COVID-19 chronicity.
Purpose of the Study:
- To present a case of extended viral shedding in a COVID-19 patient with hematological malignancy.
- To document the longest reported polymerase chain reaction (PCR) positivity duration.
Main Methods:
- Case report of a patient with lymphoma.
- Monitoring of viral shedding via PCR.
Main Results:
- The patient exhibited PCR positivity for 110 days.
- This represents the longest duration of PCR positivity documented in the literature for COVID-19.
Conclusions:
- Prolonged viral shedding can occur in immunocompromised patients, such as those with lymphoma.
- Further research is needed to correlate prolonged PCR positivity with sustained contagiousness and potential COVID-19 chronicity.

Immunological Memory
What is Immunological Memory?
Immunological memory is an integral function of the immune system that allows it to recognize and react more rapidly and effectively to pathogens previously encountered. This feature...
Chronic Pharyngitis
Etiology
It often arises from persistent viral or bacterial infections affecting sinuses and tonsils.
Additional contributing factors include inadequate dental hygiene, mouth breathing, recurring tonsillitis, allergic rhinitis, laryngopharyngeal reflux, and exposure to smoke, chemicals, and other environmental pollutants. Allergic reactions to pollen, mold, and pet dander, chronic cough, excessive voice usage,...
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease-III: Symptoms and Complications.
Symptoms of COPD can be classified as primary or systemic. Primary symptoms relate to reduced airflow, while systemic or extrapulmonary symptoms relate to COPD's broader impact on the body.
Primary Symptoms of COPD:
COPD: Pathogenesis and Clinical Features
The primary cause for the onset of COPD is cigarette smoking and exposure to air pollution. These hazardous factors initiate a chain reaction within the lungs, resulting in chronic inflammation, damage to the airways, and a...
