    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate predictors and causes of suicide death in individuals with TBI.

    • To perform sensitivity analyses excluding cases where TBI diagnosis closely preceded suicide.

    Main Methods:

    • A case-control study was conducted across eight healthcare systems.
    • Two samples were analyzed: one including all TBI suicide cases and controls, and a second excluding cases with TBI diagnosed within 3 days of suicide.
    • Conditional logistic regression models were used to estimate the odds of suicide.

    • In the adjusted analysis (excluding recent TBI diagnoses), individuals with TBI were 2.84 times more likely to die by suicide compared to those without TBI.

    • Men with TBI represent a particularly high-risk group for suicide death.
    • Comprehensive screening and ongoing monitoring for suicide risk are essential for all individuals with TBI.
