Issues And Trends In Healthcare Delivery System

5.9K
The issues and trends in healthcare delivery are constantly changing. The COVID-19 pandemic is one recent issue that wreaked havoc on healthcare systems, causing a shortage of healthcare workers, high demand for medicines and supplies, and increased medical expenditure due to a lack of insurance. Other issues include rising healthcare costs and care fragmentation.

Area of Science:

  • Dentistry
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Medical Diagnostics

Background:

  • Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly adopted in public health for faster, more accurate diagnoses.
  • AI aims to reduce healthcare costs and medical errors through technological advancements.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To analyze the application and credibility of a novel AI diagnostic method in dentistry.
  • To assess the effectiveness of AI in improving dental work and patient care.

Main Methods:

  • 120 panoramic X-rays (OPGs) were randomly selected from Sapienza University of Rome.
  • The Apox software was used to analyze OPGs, automatically identifying dental formulas, implants, crowns, fillings, and root remnants.
  • A descriptive analysis of categorical variables was performed using absolute and relative frequencies.

Main Results:

  • The AI tool demonstrated high accuracy with a high true positive rate and a low false positive rate.
  • Overall sensitivity was 0.89, and overall specificity was 0.98, indicating reliable diagnostic performance.
  • The analysis identified 2,195 true positives, 8,908 true negatives, 132 false positives, and 283 false negatives.

Conclusions:

  • The study highlights advancements in AI-driven dentistry.
  • The AI diagnostic method shows significant potential for improving dentists' workflow and patient outcomes.
  • The credibility and application of this new diagnostic tool were effectively analyzed.
