Equilibrium and Balance01:15

Equilibrium and Balance

5.1K
The inner ear assumes dual functionalities of auditory perception and equilibrium maintenance. The vestibule is the organ responsible for balance. This organ contains mechanoreceptors, specifically hair cells, endowed with stereocilia, which aid in deciphering information regarding the position and motion of our heads. Two intrinsic components, the utricle and saccule, help perceive head position, while the semicircular canals track head movement. Neurological messages initiated in the...

Assessment of the Gastrointestinal System I: Subjective Data01:17

Assessment of the Gastrointestinal System I: Subjective Data

318
Assessing the gastrointestinal (GI) system is a complex process that begins with collecting subjective data. This data, collected through patient interviews, provides crucial insights into the patient's health history, perception patterns, and lifestyle habits, all contributing significantly to GI health.
Health History
The initial step in assessing the GI system is obtaining a comprehensive health history. This includes inquiring about the patient's history or presence of problems...

Area of Science:

  • * Investigating motion sickness susceptibility.
  • * Evaluating psychometric properties of questionnaires.

Background:

  • * Motion sickness can be triggered by indirect stimuli, not just direct movement.
  • * The Motion Sickness Susceptibility Questionnaire (MSSQ)-short form is a key tool for assessment.

Purpose of the Study:

  • * To determine if virtual reality items are necessary for the MSSQ-short form.
  • * To establish the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the MSSQ-short form.

Main Methods:

  • * Expert opinion was sought for linguistic equivalence of the questionnaire.
  • * Virtual reality items were added to the MSSQ-short form.
  • * The revised questionnaire was administered to 297 individuals and analyzed for validity and reliability.

Main Results:

  • * The addition of virtual reality items resulted in high reliability (Cronbach's alpha = 0.912).
  • * Norm values for the original and Turkish MSSQ-short forms were consistent.
  • * The Turkish version demonstrated good reliability.

Conclusions:

  • * Virtual reality items are important for long-term practical applications of the MSSQ-short form.
  • * The Turkish version of the MSSQ-short form is reliable and valid.
  • * This Turkish version will aid documentation and promote further research.
