Background:

Ocular rosacea diagnosis is challenging due to non-specific symptoms and lack of definitive tests.
Investigating the link between clinical rosacea and self-reported ocular issues in middle-aged adults is important.

Purpose of the Study:

To examine the association between clinical rosacea findings and self-reported ocular symptoms.
To assess the prevalence of ocular symptoms in a general middle-aged population with rosacea.

Main Methods:

A cohort of 1,932 subjects underwent a full-body dermatological examination.
Ocular symptoms were self-reported, and logistic regression analyzed associations with rosacea.
Prevalence of rosacea subtypes and specific ocular symptoms were recorded.

Main Results:

Rosacea prevalence was 15.1%, with ocular symptoms common, including dryness (32.3%) and tearing (29.4%).
Foreign-body sensation was significantly higher in rosacea patients (p < 0.04).
Rosacea increased the risk of decreased dark visual acuity by 1.5-fold (OR 1.48).

Conclusions:

Ocular symptoms frequently occur in individuals with rosacea.
Healthcare providers should inquire about eye symptoms and examine skin/eyelids in all rosacea patients.
Early detection and management of ocular rosacea are essential, irrespective of skin severity.
