Summary

The Advanced Practice Nursing Competency Assessment Instrument was adapted and validated for Brazilian nurses. This culturally adapted tool, the APNCAI-Brazilian version, ensures accurate assessment of advanced practice nursing competencies in Brazil.

Background:

Advanced Practice Nursing (APN) is a growing field globally.
Standardized tools are needed to assess APN competencies.
The Advanced Practice Nursing Competency Assessment Instrument (APNCAI) requires cultural adaptation for international use.

Purpose of the Study:

To translate and culturally adapt the Advanced Practice Nursing Competency Assessment Instrument (APNCAI) for the Brazilian context.
To validate the content of the adapted APNCAI among Brazilian nursing experts.

Main Methods:

Methodological study involving translation, synthesis, and back-translation.
Content validation by a committee of five nursing specialists.
Pre-testing with 31 nurses and evaluation by the original instrument's author.
Statistical analysis using Content Validity Index and modified Kappa.

Main Results:

Initial content evaluation required alterations in 18 items to meet validity standards.
Further consensus issues led to three items being sent to the original author.
The pre-test phase necessitated content revisions for 13 items.
The final instrument achieved validated content.

Conclusions:

The Advanced Practice Nursing Competency Assessment Instrument (APNCAI) has been successfully cross-culturally adapted to Brazil.
The content of the APNCAI-Brazilian version has been validated, ensuring its suitability for assessing advanced practice nursing competencies in Brazil.
