Surviving Bad Meetings: Efficiencies to Thwart This Increasingly Common Administrative Time Vortex
1Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, Clinical Practice Group, Atlanta, GA.
Abstract:
Meetings have become a near-constant presence in the practicing pediatric orthopaedist's day. While many meetings are productive and efficient, others may represent a time vortex that take precious hours away from other meaningful pursuits. Organizers and participants in meetings have an obligation to optimize these gatherings whenever possible. Selecting optimal times, ensuring that the minutes together are spent efficiently, creating an agenda and presenting ideas to be discussed in an effective manner, actively listening to other participants, and debriefing are all ways that meetings can be made more productive and enjoyable.
