Dentist experience did not impact patient satisfaction with complete dentures. However, patients with prior denture experience reported higher satisfaction, particularly with chewing and comfort, and gender influenced psychological and social aspects of satisfaction.
Area of Science:
- Dentistry
- Prosthodontics
- Patient Satisfaction
Background:
- Complete denture therapy for edentulous patients presents challenges.
- Success factors include patient-related variables, denture quality, and clinical expertise.
Purpose of the Study:
- To compare patient satisfaction with complete dentures.
- Evaluate satisfaction based on provider experience (dental students vs. experienced prosthodontists).
Main Methods:
- Surveyed 60 edentulous patients 8 weeks post-denture insertion.
- Utilized questionnaires assessing satisfaction with maxillary and mandibular dentures.
Main Results:
- Dentist experience did not significantly affect patient satisfaction.
- Prior denture use correlated with easier adaptation and higher satisfaction, especially for mandibular dentures.
- Gender influenced satisfaction related to psychological and social aspects.
Conclusions:
- Dentist experience is not a primary determinant of complete denture satisfaction.
- Previous denture use and gender are significant factors influencing patient satisfaction.
