Background:
- Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a common malignancy.
- Gallbladder metastasis from RCC is exceptionally rare.
- Diagnostic imaging plays a crucial role in staging and restaging RCC.
Observation:
- A 53-year-old male patient with a history of renal cell carcinoma presented for restaging.
- 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging was performed as part of the restaging protocol.
- The imaging revealed an unexpected finding in the gallbladder.
Findings:
- The 18F-FDG PET/CT scan demonstrated hypermetabolic activity within the gallbladder.
- This finding was consistent with metastatic disease.
- Gallbladder metastasis was confirmed in the context of known renal cell carcinoma.
Implications:
- This case expands the known spectrum of rare metastatic sites for renal cell carcinoma.
- 18F-FDG PET/CT is a valuable tool for detecting occult metastases in RCC patients.
- Increased awareness of gallbladder metastasis from RCC is warranted for accurate diagnosis and management.
