Summary
Lichen amyloidosis (LA), a rare skin condition, can affect the scalp. This case study shows successful treatment of scalp LA using a combination ointment, leading to significant lesion improvement.
Area of Science:
- Dermatology
- Cutaneous Medicine
- Histopathology
Background:
- Lichen amyloidosis (LA) is a primary cutaneous amyloidosis characterized by pruritic papules.
- Typically, LA affects the extremities, with scalp involvement being exceptionally rare in documented cases.
Observation:
- A case of lichen amyloidosis presenting on the crown and vertex areas of the scalp is described.
- The patient presented with discrete, itchy, lichenoid papules localized to the scalp.
Findings:
- Topical treatment with a compound ointment containing clobetasol propionate and all-trans retinoic acid was administered.
- Significant improvement and subsidence of the scalp lesions were observed after 2 months of treatment.
Implications:
- This case highlights the possibility of LA occurring on the scalp, a site infrequently reported.
- The combination therapy demonstrates a potential effective treatment strategy for recalcitrant cutaneous amyloidosis affecting the scalp.
