    Background:

    • Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a complex mental health condition characterized by instability in mood, relationships, and self-image.
    • Existing diagnostic criteria, such as DSM-III, may not fully capture the spectrum of BPD presentations.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To compare hospitalized BPD patients with a normal control group.
    • To identify prominent features and diagnostic patterns in BPD.
    • To evaluate the adequacy of current diagnostic criteria for BPD.

    Main Methods:

    • Utilized the semistructured DIAGNOSTIC INTERVIEW BORDERLINES (DIB) Scale.
    • Combined criteria from DSM-III, Grinker, Gunderson, and Kernberg.
    • Compared 17 hospitalized BPD patients with 20 normal control subjects.
