  • A comprehensive search of multiple databases (PubMed, Web of Science, PsycINFO, Embase, CINAHL) was conducted.
  • Included studies assessed couples-based interventions for postpartum contraceptive uptake, with risk of bias assessed using RoB-2 and ROBINS-I.
  • Data were synthesized through a narrative review due to heterogeneity; meta-analysis was not possible.

Main Results:

  • Seventeen articles representing 18 studies (16 randomized, 2 observational) were included.
  • Unadjusted risk differences favored couples-based interventions, showing increased postpartum contraceptive uptake compared to standard care.
  • Significant bias was noted in several studies, particularly concerning intervention adherence and missing outcome data.

Conclusions:

  • Couples-based interventions appear to positively influence postpartum contraceptive uptake.
  • Future research must precisely define partner roles and measure intervention adherence to better understand effectiveness.
