Summary

Certain gut bacteria, like Enterococcus faecium and Pediococcus acidolactici, and their byproducts may increase the risk of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and depression. Lower levels of Bifidobacterium longum showed a protective effect against these conditions in mice.
