This study developed a clinical decision support system to identify individuals at high risk for cervical cancer. The system achieved high accuracy, aiding in early detection and potentially reducing treatment costs.
Area of Science:
- Oncology
- Medical Informatics
- Public Health
Background:
- Cervical cancer is a preventable disease.
- Assessing all risk factors is challenging for clinicians.
- Information technology aids in risk assessment.
Purpose of the Study:
- To develop a clinical decision support system (CDSS) for cervical cancer risk assessment.
Main Methods:
- Phase 1: Gynecologists identified key risk parameters via questionnaire (n=20).
- Phase 2: A CDSS prototype was developed and evaluated.
- Descriptive statistics were used for data analysis.
Main Results:
- Eight key general and specific parameters were identified as most impactful for cervical cancer risk.
- The developed CDSS demonstrated high performance metrics.
- Mean sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy were 85.81%, 93.82%, and 91.39%, respectively.
Conclusions:
- The CDSS can streamline the identification of individuals at risk for cervical cancer.
- Implementation may enhance healthcare quality and reduce treatment expenses.
- This tool supports proactive cervical cancer prevention strategies.
