A new Dynamic Hybrid Secured Encryption Technique (DHSE) enhances Cyber-Physical System (CPS) security for smart industries. This novel algorithm offers faster encryption and decryption, improving data confidentiality in IoT environments.
Area of Science:
- Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS)
- Internet of Things (IoT)
- Industrial Cybersecurity
Background:
- CPSs in smart industries face significant security challenges due to their integration with IoT and cloud infrastructure.
- The heterogeneous nature of devices and interconnectedness of cyber and physical layers create vulnerabilities in traditional CPS security.
- Existing security measures are often insufficient for Complex Industrial Applications (CIA) involving dynamic interactions.
Purpose of the Study:
- To propose a novel data security algorithm, Dynamic Hybrid Secured Encryption Technique (DHSE), for enhancing CPS security.
- To address the security constraints posed by cloud-based data storage in IoT-enabled CPS.
- To improve the efficiency of data encryption and decryption in industrial cyber-physical systems.
Main Methods:
- Developed a hybrid encryption scheme combining Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), Identity-Based Encryption (IBE), and Attribute-Based Encryption (ABE).
- Implemented data categorization into less sensitive, mid-sensitive, and high sensitive levels.
- Utilized named-data packets (NDPs) with name labeling for data distribution and defined encryption rounds based on key size.
Main Results:
- The DHSE algorithm demonstrated an average encryption time of 2.07 ms, significantly faster than AES (3.25 ms), IBE (2.18 ms), and ABE (2.39 ms).
- Average decryption times for DHSE were 1.07 ms, outperforming AES (1.77 ms), IBE (1.09 ms), and ABE (1.20 ms).
- The proposed framework ensures data confidentiality with minimal encryption and decryption overhead.
Conclusions:
- The DHSE algorithm provides a robust and efficient solution for securing data in CPS-IoT environments.
- The hybrid approach effectively balances security and performance, making it suitable for complex industrial applications.
- DHSE's speed and confidentiality features are critical for the continued development and adoption of smart industries.
