Summary

Porous high-density polyethylene (pHDPE) grafts in rhinoplasty show higher complication rates when placed in the caudal nose. Cephalically placed grafts are more stable, reducing risks of infection and extrusion.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the correlation between complication rates of pHDPE grafts in rhinoplasty and their anatomical location.
  • To assess the influence of shear force on graft stability based on external manipulation.

  • A retrospective analysis of 116 patients who underwent pHDPE rhinoplasty over a 10-year period.
  • Evaluation of graft location in relation to complication incidence.

  • Minor complications (3.4%) resolved conservatively.
  • Major complications (infection, extrusion) occurred in 5.2% of patients, averaging 36.9 months post-surgery.
