The value of carcinoembryonic antigen in clinical practice

Carcinoembryonic antigen has been investigated as a tumour marker for over 20 years. It is not completely tumour specific but results can be used in decision making in certain well defined clinical situations. The most important is as a serum tumour marker and for radioimmunolocalisation in follow up of colorectal cancer.
