Open Angle Glaucoma: Treatment

In open-angle glaucoma, the iridocorneal angle remains open, but the trabecular meshwork becomes stiff, slowing down the outflow of aqueous humor. Background:

Periorbital corticosteroid injections are common treatments for various ocular conditions.
Hypopyon is a rare but serious potential complication following such injections.

Purpose of the Study:

To describe a case series of hypopyon following periorbital corticosteroid injection.
To investigate the clinical presentation and management of hypopyon in this context.

Main Methods:

Retrospective, observational case series.
Analysis of three patients who developed hypopyon after periorbital corticosteroid injection.

Main Results:

All three patients presented with hypopyon after periocular corticosteroid injection.
Diagnoses included herpes simplex virus (HSV) stromal keratitis or endotheliitis.
Successful treatment involved topical steroids and systemic/topical antiviral therapy.

Conclusions:

Periocular corticosteroid injection is not recommended in cases of HSV keratitis.
Topical corticosteroids are the preferred treatment for HSV stromal keratitis and endotheliitis.
