Background:

While healthcare robots can reduce workload, they necessitate nurse effort for smooth operation (EERSO).
The impact of EERSO on nurses' workplace outcomes remains under-explored.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the associations between EERSO, time pressure, missed care, and nurses' turnover intention.
To determine if robot performance moderates these relationships.

Main Methods:

A two-wave longitudinal study design was employed.
Data were collected from 331 nurses in a Taiwanese medical center between 2019 and 2020.

Main Results:

EERSO positively correlated with missed care and time pressure.
Time pressure was also positively associated with missed care and turnover intention.
Enhanced robot performance attenuated the positive relationship between EERSO and time pressure.

Conclusions:

Despite potential workload reduction, EERSO can negatively affect nursing work environments.
Reducing nurse time pressure and selecting robots with minimal EERSO are recommended strategies for hospital management.
