    Summary

    Pneumatic retinopexy successfully repaired rhegmatogenous retinal detachment in 70% of cases. However, two patients developed new retinal detachments early post-surgery, an unobserved complication.

    Background:

    • Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) is a serious condition requiring surgical repair.
    • Pneumatic retinopexy is a minimally invasive surgical option for RRD.

    Observation:

    • This study retrospectively reviewed thirteen RRD cases treated with pneumatic retinopexy.
    • Patients were followed for at least six months post-surgery.

    Findings:

    • Pneumatic retinopexy achieved successful retinal reattachment in nine out of thirteen patients (70%).
    • Four patients (30%) experienced treatment failure.
    • Two patients developed new retinal tears and detachments in previously unaffected areas within two days of the procedure.

    Implications:

    • While effective for many, pneumatic retinopexy carries a risk of early postoperative complications, including new retinal tears and detachments.
