Summary

The Galilei G6 device offers repeatable ocular biometry measurements. Agreement for intraocular lens (IOL) power calculations was better with the IOL Master 700 than the IOL Master 500.

Area of Science:

  • Ophthalmology
  • Biomedical Optics
  • Medical Devices

Background:

  • Accurate ocular biometry is crucial for precise intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation in cataract surgery.
  • Evaluating the performance of new biometry devices against established standards is essential for clinical adoption.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the repeatability of ocular biometry and IOL power measurements using the Galilei G6.
  • To compare the agreement of Galilei G6 measurements with those obtained from the IOL Master 700 and IOL Master 500.

Main Methods:

  • One hundred cataract eyes underwent two biometry assessments with the Galilei G6.
  • Measurements of axial length, keratometry (K1, K2), anterior chamber depth, white-to-white diameter, lens thickness, and calculated IOL power were analyzed.
  • Statistical methods included correlation coefficients, within-subject standard deviation, and Bland-Altman analysis for limits of agreement.

Main Results:

  • The Galilei G6 demonstrated high repeatability, with intraclass correlation coefficients above 0.9 for all measured parameters.
  • Limits of agreement between Galilei G6 and IOL Master 700 were generally narrower than those between Galilei G6 and IOL Master 500.
  • Best agreement for IOL power was observed with the Haigis formula (0.57 D) for Galilei G6-IOL Master 700 and Holladay-1 (0.35 D) for Galilei G6-IOL Master 500.

Conclusions:

  • The Galilei G6 provides reliable and repeatable ocular biometry measurements.
  • The agreement between the Galilei G6 and the IOL Master 700 for biometry and IOL power calculation is superior to that with the IOL Master 500.
