Area of Science:

  • Radiochemistry
  • Nuclear Medicine
  • Preclinical Research

Background:

  • Carbon-11 labelled acetate ([11C]acetate) is a vital radiotracer.
  • Its application spans clinical practice and preclinical research.
  • Efficient synthesis methods are crucial for its availability.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the TRACERLab FX C Pro Synthesizer for [11C]acetate production.
  • To optimize the carboxylation reaction for synthesizing [11C]acetate.
  • To determine the yield and reaction time for this synthesis.

Main Methods:

  • Utilized the TRACERLab FX C Pro Synthesizer.
  • Employed a sensitive carboxylation reaction.
  • Started with 11 GBq of Carbon-11 labelled carbon dioxide ([11C]CO2).

Main Results:

  • Isolated approximately 3 GBq of [11C]acetate.
  • Achieved a reaction time of only 20 minutes.
  • Reported a radiochemical yield of 56 ± 7% (n=10).

Conclusions:

  • The TRACERLab FX C Pro Synthesizer is effective for [11C]acetate synthesis.
  • The method provides a rapid and efficient route to produce this important radiotracer.
  • This synthesis is suitable for both clinical and preclinical applications.
