  • A 61-year-old immunocompromised female with a history of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma presented with a prolonged COVID-19 infection.
  • Despite clinical improvement, her cycle threshold (CT) values on RT-PCR tests continued to worsen.
  • This patient's course was compared to other reported cases in immunocompromised populations.

Findings:

  • Cycle threshold values may not reliably indicate disease severity or progression in immunocompromised COVID-19 patients.
  • RT-PCR assays targeting replicative viral RNA might offer better insights into severity and infectivity.
  • The patient's prolonged disease course mirrors patterns seen in other immunocompromised individuals.

Implications:

  • There is a critical need for enhanced treatment protocols for COVID-19 in immunocompromised patients.
  • Improved infection prevention strategies are essential for protecting this vulnerable population from SARS-CoV-2.
  • Further research into diagnostic markers for prolonged COVID-19 in immunocompromised individuals is warranted.
