Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between Sensory Processing Sensitivity (SPS) and telomere length (TL) in adolescents.
  • To explore potential biological markers of aging in relation to sensory processing traits.

  • Recruited 82 healthy adolescents (ages 13-16) from German secondary schools.
  • Measured SPS using the Highly Sensitive Person Scale.
  • Determined TL via multiplex quantitative PCR.

  • Higher SPS values were significantly associated with shorter telomere length (β = 0.337, p = 0.001).
  • This association remained significant after adjusting for sex, socioeconomic status, age, and BMI.
