    Summary

    Eosinophils may cause fibrosis by releasing fibrogenic factors. This study found that eosinophil extracts and supernatants stimulate fibroblast activity, suggesting a link between eosinophilia and scar formation.

    Background:

    • Fibrosis is a common complication in chronic inflammatory diseases.
    • Chronic hypereosinophilic syndromes can lead to fibrotic conditions.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate whether eosinophils are a source of fibrogenic factors.
    • To explore the potential causal relationship between eosinophilia and scar formation.

    • Preparation of cell populations enriched for human and guinea pig eosinophils.
    • Extraction of substances from eosinophils and their granules.
