Abstract:
While CT cannot replace plain chest radiography as a primary diagnostic tool for cardiothoracic disorders, it does offer three advantages over plain radiography: superior density discrimination, wide dynamic range, and cross-sectional image. This article reviews CT technique and radiation dosage, how chest cavity tissues appear on CT scans, and specific applications of CT for disorders that affect those tissues.
