Background:

  • Non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) are prevalent and require effective restorative solutions.
  • Evaluating the adaptation of different restorative techniques is crucial for long-term clinical success.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the external and internal adaptation of cervical restorations using four distinct techniques.
  • To assess the efficacy of direct composite, direct composite with liner, direct-indirect composite, and indirect composite restorations.

Main Methods:

  • Standardized cervical preparations were made on 40 human premolars.
  • Teeth were divided into four groups: direct composite, direct composite with flowable liner, direct-indirect composite, and indirect composite.
  • Marginal adaptation was assessed using scanning electron microscopy, and internal adaptation was evaluated via micro-computed tomography.

Main Results:

  • No statistically significant differences in marginal adaptation were observed among the four restorative techniques.
  • A higher percentage of continuous margin was found in the proximal segment compared to the cervical segment.
  • Internal adaptation showed no significant differences between the evaluated groups.

Conclusions:

  • All tested restorative techniques demonstrated comparable marginal and internal adaptation for cervical lesions.
  • The choice of technique may not significantly impact adaptation in the short term.
