Association between Circulating Omentin-1 Levels and Aortic Valve Sclerosis

Lower serum omentin-1 levels are associated with aortic valve sclerosis (AVS). Omentin-1 may serve as a predictive biomarker and potential treatment target for AVS.

Background:
- Aortic valve sclerosis (AVS) involves valve leaflet thickening and calcification without significant motion limitation.
- Omentin-1, a glycoprotein from visceral adipose tissue, is linked to atherosclerosis, obesity, and metabolic syndrome.
- No prior studies have explored the relationship between AVS and omentin-1.
Purpose of the Study:
- To investigate the association between serum omentin-1 levels and AVS.
- To determine if omentin-1 can serve as a predictive biomarker for AVS.

- Eighty-six patients with AVS and 92 controls were enrolled.
- Baseline clinical data were collected, and conventional 2D echocardiography was performed.
- Serum omentin-1 levels were quantified.

- Mean omentin-1 levels were significantly lower in the AVS group (78.16 ± 44.95 ng/mL) versus controls (163.57 ± 59.84 ng/mL).
- Lower omentin-1 levels (< 92.45 ng/mL) demonstrated 90.5% sensitivity and 71.4% specificity for predicting AVS.
- Omentin-1 and LDL-C were identified as independent predictors of AVS in multivariate analysis.
Conclusions:
- Reduced serum omentin-1 levels correlate with an increased risk of developing AVS.
- Omentin-1 shows potential as a predictive biomarker and a therapeutic target for AVS.
