Oral and cutaneous features of acute human immunodeficiency virus infection

Acute infection with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1) may give rise to a febrile illness with distinctive clinical features. Oral and cutaneous involvement may be prominent. Two cases are reported that illustrate this syndrome, and the importance of its early recognition is emphasized.
