Purpose of the Study:

  • To identify a BMI threshold for reduced complication risk after radical cystectomy.
  • To investigate the association between BMI subcategories and perioperative complications.

Main Methods:

  • Analysis of 589 patients from the Canadian Bladder Cancer Information System prospective registry.
  • Comparison of perioperative complications (≤90 days) across BMI subcategories.
  • Multivariable logistic regression and cubic spline analysis to determine BMI association with complication risk and identify a threshold.

Main Results:

  • Perioperative complications occurred in 30% of normal BMI, 43% of overweight, and 43% of obese patients (P=.02).
  • BMI was independently associated with increased complication risk (OR 1.04).
