Abstract:
The author interprets the formation of exposure factors in a nuclear reactor accident, causes of the formation of a separated mixture of nuclear fission fragments and their principal radionuclide composition. The ratio of doses of whole-body gamma-irradiation resulting in the development of the acute radiation syndrome, beta-irradiation of the skin causing radiation dermatitis, and additional irradiation of thyroid tissue resulting from inhalation radioiodine contamination was analyzed. The author described the main peculiarities of acute radiation disease caused by combined radiation exposure to radiation gases and sols, the time course of radiation dermatitis, the aggravating effect of multicomponent injury.
