Background:

Systemic and structural racism negatively affect Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) in nursing.
Racism contributes to underrepresentation of BIPOC in leadership and academic positions.
Racialized groups experience significant physical and mental health issues due to racism.

Purpose of the Study:

To describe strategies for the Black Nurses Task Force to build solidarity with nursing and government organizations.
To dismantle systemic and structural racism within the nursing profession.
To identify actionable steps for promoting equity in nursing.

Main Methods:

A quality improvement study utilizing a structured online survey.
Mixed-methods approach combining quantitative (descriptive statistics) and qualitative (interpretative thematic analysis) data.
Survey distributed to assess experiences and perceptions of racism in nursing.

Main Results:

88% of participants reported experiencing racism within the nursing profession.
63% of participants indicated that racism negatively impacted their mental health.
Key themes identified: social support for Black nurses, leadership accountability, and solidarity.

Conclusions:

Urgent need to dismantle systemic and structural racism in nursing is evident.
