Summary

In elderly Chinese, 39.9% had beta zone parapapillary atrophy. This finding was associated with age, gender, myopia, and thinner retinal nerve fiber layer and choroidal thickness.

Background:

  • Parapapillary atrophy (PPA) is a common finding in the elderly population.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine the prevalence of beta zone parapapillary atrophy in an elderly Chinese population.

  • These findings highlight the importance of beta zone PPA as a potential indicator of ocular and systemic health in the elderly Chinese population.
