Summary

This study introduces a perforator-based flap technique for earlobe reconstruction, utilizing preoperative Doppler to maximize flap vascularity. The method proved safe and effective, yielding high aesthetic and patient satisfaction scores.

Background:

Earlobe reconstruction presents challenges in achieving a simple, one-stage technique for diverse defects.
Existing methods often struggle with long-term natural appearance and defect adaptability.

Purpose of the Study:

To present a novel perforator-based flap design for earlobe reconstruction.
To evaluate the safety, efficacy, and aesthetic outcomes of this technique.

Main Methods:

A perforator-based flap design was employed for earlobe reconstruction.
Preoperative perforator detection using a pencil Doppler ensured maximal flap vascularity.
The technique was applied to 30 cases between July 2015 and July 2019.

The mean aesthetic evaluation score was 4.7 out of 5.

The mean patient satisfaction score was 4.8 out of 5.

Conclusions:

Freestyle perforator flap with preoperative Doppler detection is a safe and reliable earlobe reconstruction method.
This technique offers excellent aesthetic results and high patient satisfaction.
