    Summary

    This study found that all nursing support behaviors, including affect, affirmation, and aid, were perceived as helpful by women during labor. No significant differences existed in the perceived helpfulness of these support types.

    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To identify the helpfulness of specific nursing support behaviors during labor as perceived by women.
    • To compare the perceived helpfulness of affective, affirmation, and aid support provided by nurses.

    • A convenience sample of 78 women in labor completed the Nursing Support in Labor Questionnaire (NSILQ) and a demographic questionnaire.
