Preoperative vitamin D deficiency (VDD) may help parathyroid glands recover faster after total thyroidectomy. This finding suggests VDD might protect against prolonged hypoparathyroidism, aiding parathyroid function recovery (PFR).

- Preoperative VDD may precondition parathyroid glands, potentially aiding PFR after thyroidectomy.
- Further basic research and prospective trials are necessary to elucidate mechanisms and optimize clinical management.
