Researchers developed CyanoMapDB, a new database for cyanobacterial protein-protein interactions (PPIs). This resource integrates experimental data, aiding the study of these essential microorganisms and their functions.
Area of Science:
- Microbiology
- Biochemistry
- Bioinformatics
Background:
- Cyanobacteria are vital biosphere organisms with growing research interest.
- Protein-protein interactions (PPIs) are crucial for biological functions but are understudied in cyanobacteria.
- Existing PPI data for cyanobacteria is fragmented and not user-friendly.
Purpose of the Study:
- To create a comprehensive, integrated database of cyanobacterial PPIs.
- To provide easy access to experimentally validated PPI data for cyanobacteria.
- To facilitate research on cyanobacterial biology and plant science.
Main Methods:
- Integrated PPI data from UniProt, STRING, and IntAct.
- Mined additional PPIs from co-fractionation Mass Spectrometry (MS) data in cyanobacteria.
- Developed the CyanoMapDB web resource (http://www.cyanomapdb.msbio.pro/) for data accessibility.
Main Results:
- CyanoMapDB contains 52,304 PPIs involving 6,789 proteins from 23 cyanobacterial species.
- The database offers integrated, experimentally evidenced PPI data.
- Users can query proteins, view interacting partners, and visualize interaction networks.
Conclusions:
- CyanoMapDB provides a valuable, integrated resource for cyanobacterial PPIs.
- The database simplifies access to complex interaction data.
- CyanoMapDB is expected to significantly advance research in cyanobacteria and related plant studies.
