Background:

Stafne bone defect (SBD) is a common entity in the jaw.
Understanding its clinical, imaging, and histopathological features is crucial for diagnosis.

Approach:

A systematic review of 98 articles was conducted.
Data from 465 individuals with SBD were analyzed.
Eligibility criteria included English, Spanish, and Portuguese case reports/series up to September 2021.

Key Points:

SBD predominantly affects males (80.85%) in their fifth and sixth decades.
The lesion is most common in the posterior mandible (93.77%) appearing as a well-defined, unilocular, hypodense radiolucent area.
