Summary

Ureterocalycostomy offers a viable surgical solution when ureteropelvic anastomosis fails. This plastic surgery technique should be considered before resorting to urinary diversion procedures like nephrostomy.

Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Surgical Techniques

Background:

  • Ureteropelvic anastomosis is a standard surgical procedure.
  • Alternative reconstructive methods are needed when primary anastomosis is not feasible.

Observation:

  • Ureterocalycostomy was performed in two patients.
  • The surgical procedure yielded positive outcomes in both cases.

Findings:

  • Ureterocalycostomy is an effective surgical option for complex ureteral obstructions.
  • This technique provides a valuable alternative to urinary diversion.

Implications:

  • Ureterocalycostomy should be considered in cases where ureteropelvic anastomosis is impossible.
  • This approach may help preserve renal function by avoiding nephrostomy.
