Littre

Area of Science:

  • Gastroenterology and General Surgery

Background:

  • Littre's hernia, a rare condition involving a Meckel's diverticulum within a hernia sac, has an incidence of less than 1% in adult hernias.
  • Inguinal hernias are the most common presentation in adults.

Observation:

  • A case report of a healthy 68-year-old male undergoing elective open right inguinal hernia repair.
  • A Meckel's diverticulum was incidentally discovered within the indirect hernia sac.

Findings:

  • The incidental finding of Meckel's diverticulum during routine hernia repair.
  • Standard surgical management for Meckel's diverticulum found during hernia repair is resection.

Implications:

  • Highlights the importance of awareness and appropriate management of incidental Meckel's diverticulum during hernia surgery.
